Position

The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) represents the interest of 20,000+ health insurance professionals. More importantly, our members serve the needs of more than 100 million Americans. NAHU's strength in the health care reform debate is directly proportionate to our service to our clients. Our clients have come to know and respect our knowledge of health coverage issues and the complexities of health reform. Our relationship with individual consumers and employers is a powerful force which can turn the tide of the health care reform debate. Coordinated grassroots advocacy will be the key to our continued success in the future. We must be able to mobilize people in every congressional district throughout the country to be effective. In addition, LAHU works very closely with the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Louisiana Business Group on Health, the National Federation of Independent Business, the Big I, PIA and many more.LAHU participates with its State PAC (HAPAC) and Federal PAC (HUPAC) in hosting fundraisers for State and Federal legislators.

National Issues

NAHU, on a national level, employs a qualified staff of lobbyists and legislative experts that work on our members behalf. Janet Trautwein, NAHU CEO & Executive Director, served as a consultant for President Bush's Transition Team and our staff consistently testifies for Congress as well as advises the White House on health insurance related matters.

Operation Shout

A significant component of NAHU's legislative success is based on our ability to show legislators how important specific issues are to our members. In order to achieve these goals, NAHU relies on YOU to email your federal and state legislators through Operation Shout! In addition to emailing elected officials, Operation Shout!, also enables members to view political background information, links to federal and state level government websites, media information, voting records, bill summaries, PAC details, election candidates and more!
